The Northville Heritage Festival

September 14-16, 2018

Downtown Northville, Michigan

Held each September in beautiful Downtown Northville, the Northville Heritage Festival celebrates the rich history and small town charm of the Northville community.

Incorporated as a village in 1867, the next ten years saw the founding of the local newspaper, The Northville Record, as well as the first diploma awarded from the local high school and the opening of Parmenter's Cider Mill, a community treasure that sits today on Baseline Road.

For the last 150 years, Northville has written a fascinating history as it's grown into the 21st century, while maintaining a cozy, friendly, community.  Much of the city's story is available by speaking with members of the Northville Historical Society and visiting Mill Race Village

The Heritage Festival, formerly known as the Northville Victorian Festival, provides an opportunity for residents of Northville, both past and present, to reminisce, enjoy and celebrate the wonderful town that we've all called home.  It's our pleasure to share our community with visitors who come to shop, dine, attend theaters, work and play.

The Northville Chamber of Commerce presents this yearly festival proudly, and is grateful for our members, neighbors and guests who support our goal of a successful and thriving Northville.

celebrating the 80's

As part of this year’s Heritage Festival, we are going back to the totally awesome 1980s! We'll celebrate the decade with a 80's Tribute Band, a Big Hair contest and a pictorial of what Northville was up to in the 80's.

So what's to celebrate? On the national/world stage, it was the era of Ronald Reagan (Morning in America), fall of the Berlin Wall, Chernobyl, 1980 Winter Olympics (Miracle on Ice) and the 1984 Detroit Tigers' World Series win!

Closer to home, the City of Northville's downtown makeover (Main Street '78) was under way transforming an aging infrastructure and a tired streetscape into a vital catalyst for increased commerce and historic preservation. Commerce also made headlines when Northville Township gave a nod to the construction of Meijer at Eight Mile and Haggerty. New leadership included the hiring of George Bell as Superintendent of Northville Public Schools, and Chris Johnson's election as mayor of the City of Northville. The first women also were admitted to the formerly male-only Northville Rotary and Northville Jaycees.

So how did Northville close out the decade? With a not to our heritage, of course! The Chamber sponsored the first Victorian Festival in 1989.

Join us as we celebrate our heritage with the spotlight always on the Victorian era and this year, our 1980s heritage.
